A romantic, culture-packed beach break
Soft sands, secluded, greenery-shaded rooms, lively coral reefs: the Maldives is the stuff of fabled honeymoons, where reality does a fine job of meeting daydream expectations.
Como Maalifushi
Style: Tropical beach belle
Setting: Away-from-it-all Thaa Atoll
Room: Garden Room
Beautifully conceived island escape Como Maalifushi has thatched rooms with sleek wood-and-marble interiors, scattered over a bijou, gobsmackingly beautiful island in a stretch of aquamarine sea.
Smith Extra
A bottle of wine and a fruit platter for BlackSmiths and SilverSmiths, and a bottle of champagne and super-sized luxury fruit platter for GoldSmiths. All guests staying seven nights or more get a sunset fishing experience for two
You’ll spend six nights in your island hideaway, more than enough time to discover the Thaa Atoll’s many wonders. Marvel at luxuriant coral gardens on a private snorkel or scuba tour, hop on a surfboard or sail into the sunset (and back again). Treat yourself to some serious spoiling at the famed Como Shambhala Spa; book a couples treatment to get soothingly rubbed and scrubbed in a pavilion with an equally restorative Indian Ocean view.
Getting there
Book international flights to Delhi (or have the Smith24 team arrange them by calling 03334 145 550), where most Indian adventures kick off; as such it’s easily reached from all over the world. British Airways run direct flights from London (around an eight-hour journey). Travel within India is by air-conditioned minivan, with a handy, English-speaking driver to navigate India’s often chaotic roads. You’ll need to book a connecting flight from Jaipur to Malé Airport separately and a seaplane or boat transfer from there to Como Maalifushi.
When to go
India’s lush interior can be somewhat waterlogged from July to September, during monsoon season; Ranthambore National Park reopens as the mountains and jungles dry, from 1 October to 30 June. However, the Maldives are ideally positioned for clement temperatures and have sunny spells all year round.
